A 25-year-old Washington teacher is facing criminal charges after investigators alleged she engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student. Police say the case came to light after the woman’s husband contacted authorities and shared concerns about messages found on her phone.
The teacher, identified as Mackenzie Naught, has pleaded not guilty to the accusations. If convicted, she could face several years in prison as the investigation continues.
Husband Contacted Police After Discovering Messages
According to court documents, the investigation began after Naught’s husband reportedly discovered messages and other information on her mobile device that raised concerns about her relationship with the teenager.
Authorities allege the teen picked up the teacher in a vehicle earlier this month before the pair traveled to a remote location. Investigators claim the two exchanged messages before meeting privately.
Police later interviewed both the teenager and the teacher as part of the case. Investigators also reviewed digital evidence and location data during the inquiry.
