Spanish police have detained Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango fashion empire founder Isak Andic, as part of an ongoing investigation into the billionaire businessman’s death in Spain. Authorities in Catalonia confirmed the detention on May 19 while the case surrounding the fatal hiking incident continues to develop.

Isak Andic, founder of the global fashion retailer Mango, died in December 2024 after falling from a cliff during a hiking trip near Barcelona. The incident was initially treated as an accident, but investigators later reopened the case under suspicion of possible homicide.

Police Continue Investigation Into 2024 Death

According to regional police officials, Jonathan Andic was taken in for questioning in connection with the investigation. He is expected to appear before a judge as authorities review evidence gathered over the past year.

Investigators reportedly began examining inconsistencies surrounding witness accounts and forensic findings linked to the fatal fall in the Montserrat mountain area near Barcelona. Officials have not publicly disclosed specific evidence due to judicial secrecy surrounding the case.

Family representatives stated that Jonathan Andic has cooperated fully with investigators and maintains his innocence.

Isak Andic Built Mango Into a Global Fashion Brand

Isak Andic was one of Spain’s most influential fashion entrepreneurs. Born in Istanbul, he later moved to Catalonia and founded Mango in 1984. Over the decades, the company expanded into a major international clothing retailer competing with global fast-fashion giants.

At the time of his death, Andic was estimated to have a net worth of approximately $4.5 billion. Mango reported billions in annual sales and operated stores across multiple countries worldwide.

Jonathan Andic previously worked in Mango’s retail operations and currently serves as vice-chairman of the company’s board.

Case Draws International Attention

The investigation has attracted major public attention across Europe due to Mango’s global business presence and the prominence of the Andic family in the fashion industry.

Spanish authorities have not announced formal charges at this stage, and the investigation remains active. Mango has not issued an official public statement regarding the latest developments.
