Polish police have detained a 23-year-old man from the Lublin region after investigators discovered an online post allegedly calling for the killing of several senior politicians. Authorities said the post also discussed organizing an assassination attempt, prompting a criminal investigation into the suspect.

The detention was announced on Friday by Poland’s Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime, which said the alleged threats were found in an online group focused on firearms.

Police Discover Alleged Political Assassination Threats Online

According to investigators, the suspect published material calling for the “elimination” of several individuals and suggested taking steps toward an attack on prominent Polish political figures.

Police identified the material during an investigation into online activity. The authorities have not publicly identified the politicians who were allegedly targeted.

The case highlights growing scrutiny of violent threats and calls for political violence circulating on internet platforms.

Suspect Faces Serious Criminal Charges

Prosecutors have brought several serious allegations against the man. Authorities accuse him of taking steps intended to create conditions for an act involving genocide, preparing for offenses involving peace, humanity and war crimes, and publicly encouraging criminal activity.

If convicted, the suspect could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years, according to information released by authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the man have not been established in court.

Poland Steps Up Action Against Online Threats

The detention comes as Polish authorities continue to pay closer attention to online content that they believe crosses the line from inflammatory rhetoric into potential incitement or preparations for violence.

Cybercrime investigators are increasingly involved in cases involving threats made through social media and other digital platforms. Officials have also warned about the risks posed by increasingly aggressive political rhetoric online.

Authorities are expected to continue examining the suspect’s online activity as the investigation develops.
