Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing more legal trouble after a Texas court ordered him to serve 30 days in jail for violating the conditions of his probation. The violation came after Rice reportedly tested positive for THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana.
The latest development is connected to Rice’s probation tied to a high-speed multi-vehicle crash in Dallas in 2024. The NFL player is now expected to miss important offseason team activities while serving his sentence.
Court Orders Jail Time for Probation Violation
Court records show that Rice violated the terms of his deferred probation after failing a drug test. A Dallas County judge ordered the Chiefs receiver to immediately begin serving a 30-day jail sentence.
Rice had previously received five years of probation as part of a plea agreement related to the 2024 highway crash case. The agreement also included jail time that could be served during the probation period. However, the recent violation reportedly forced the court to enforce the sentence now.
Authorities stated that Rice is expected to remain in custody until mid-June.
Chiefs Receiver to Miss OTAs and Minicamp
The timing of the sentence means Rice will miss the Kansas City Chiefs’ organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
The absence could impact the team’s offseason preparations, especially as Rice remains one of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ key offensive weapons. The Chiefs organization has not yet released an official public statement regarding the situation.
Rice was previously suspended by the NFL following the crash investigation and has faced multiple legal and disciplinary challenges over the past two years.
Background of the Dallas Crash Case
The legal issues stem from a March 2024 crash involving multiple vehicles on a Dallas highway. Investigators said Rice was driving a Lamborghini at extremely high speeds before the accident occurred.
Several people were injured in the crash, and prosecutors later filed felony charges related to bodily injury and street racing. Rice eventually accepted responsibility through a plea agreement and agreed to pay compensation to victims involved in the incident.
Despite showing strong performances on the field since joining the Chiefs, the ongoing legal matters continue to create uncertainty around his future availability and reputation in the league.
