Shocking Incident Caught on Camera in California

A terrifying traffic incident in Fullerton, California, on January 20 left drivers stunned when a 19-month-old toddler was thrown from a moving SUV in the middle of a busy intersection and narrowly avoided being struck by oncoming traffic. The dramatic moment was captured on video, prompting a police investigation and arrest.

Video shared by law enforcement shows the child emerging from the front passenger side as the SUV turned through the junction at N. Euclid Street and W. Malvern Avenue, before tumbling onto the road and rolling dangerously close to other vehicles.

Mother Arrested, Child Hospitalized After Near-Miss

Local authorities identified the driver as 35-year-old Jacqueline Hernandez of La Habra. After the video began circulating, a witness came forward with details that helped police locate the SUV and the mother at a nearby residence. Hernandez was taken into custody on suspicion of felony child abuse and booked into Fullerton City Jail.

The toddler, who was reportedly not properly restrained in a child safety seat, suffered injuries consistent with the fall and was transported to a local hospital. Medical officials say the child is expected to recover fully.

Police Urge Witnesses to Share Information

Police say the incident was not initially reported by witnesses, and officers only learned of it after the crucial testimony that led to identifying the vehicle. Authorities continue to ask anyone who saw the event or has additional footage to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.

California law requires proper child safety restraints, including rear-facing seats for children under age two, unless they meet specific size criteria, and experts emphasize the importance of following these regulations to prevent similar incidents.
