Mother and Grandmother Arrested in Death of Autistic Teen
A heartbreaking child neglect case has led to murder charges against a mother and grandmother in New York after a 16-year-old boy with autism died from severe malnutrition.
Authorities said the teenager was taken to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx on March 19 after emergency responders were called regarding a suspicious death. Medical officials later determined the boy had died from extreme malnutrition, and the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Police arrested the boy’s 36-year-old mother, Geneva Jarvis, and his 62-year-old grandmother, Denise Jarvis, in connection with the case. Both now face murder charges.
Twin Brother Found in Critical Condition
Investigators revealed that the victim had a twin brother, who also has autism. He was discovered in similarly poor physical condition and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Officials said the surviving teenager narrowly escaped the same fate and remains under medical care. Law enforcement believes both boys had been living with their mother and grandmother in the Bronx before the tragic incident.
Investigation Continues as Court Proceedings Await
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the teen’s death. As of the latest update, court records indicated that an arraignment date for the two defendants had not yet been scheduled.
