Detroit Shooting Leaves Three People Dead
Three people were killed and four others injured after a confrontation escalated into gunfire at an after-hours strip club in Detroit, Michigan, early Sunday morning, police said.
Detroit police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 7:21 a.m. on September 27. Officers arriving at the scene discovered three men suffering from fatal gunshot wounds, according to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison.
Four additional victims—two men and two women—were transported to area hospitals in private vehicles. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said. Police indicated that the victims were generally in their 20s and 30s, while the three men who died were believed to be age 30 or older.
Police Say Shooting Followed an Altercation
Investigators believe the Detroit shooting began with a fight inside or around the after-hours establishment. Chief Bettison said the confrontation escalated before shots were fired.
The location, situated on a largely residential street, was already known to Detroit police. Authorities said officers had received seven calls involving the address earlier this year.
Police described the business as an after-hours venue operating in a manner similar to a strip club. Investigators have developed leads in the case, although officials had not announced an arrest at the time of the latest reports.
Investigation Continues as Officials Seek Information
Detroit authorities are continuing to investigate what led to the deadly confrontation and who was responsible for the shooting.
Mayor Mary Sheffield urged people who witnessed the incident or have relevant information to cooperate with investigators. City officials also said they would work to address illegal after-hours operations in Detroit neighborhoods.
Authorities have not publicly identified the three people who were killed. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected as police continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
