At least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan, northwestern Pakistan, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The explosion occurred near the border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with police and rescue teams responding to the scene.

Explosion Hits Security Checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan

The blast took place at a roadside security checkpoint used by police to conduct inspections along the D.I. Khan-Quetta route. Initial reports said the attacker drove a vehicle carrying explosives toward the checkpoint before detonating it.

Rescue officials reported that the fatalities included eight men, two women and a child. Several other people were injured in the explosion, including police personnel, customs officials and civilians. Rescue teams continued working at the site to recover victims and assist those affected by the blast.

The powerful explosion also caused damage around the checkpoint, while emergency responders and security personnel secured the area.

Investigation Underway After Deadly Pakistan Bombing

Following the attack, bomb disposal specialists were sent to the location to examine the scene and determine details surrounding the explosion. Authorities also launched an investigation as emergency teams transported injured victims for medical treatment.

The attack occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a region that has experienced repeated militant violence and security operations in recent years. The province’s location near the Afghan border has made it a frequent target of militant attacks.

The Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the bombing, according to reports. Authorities are expected to investigate the claim as part of their broader inquiry into the attack.

Security Concerns Grow in Northwestern Pakistan

The latest bombing adds to ongoing security concerns in northwestern Pakistan, where attacks against police and other security personnel have continued. Authorities have increased security measures at checkpoints and other sensitive locations across the region.

Officials and rescue agencies were continuing their response following the Dera Ismail Khan explosion, while the exact circumstances surrounding the attack remained under investigation.
