Tragic New York Family Deaths Ruled Homicide and Suicide
Authorities in Mechanicville, New York, have confirmed that four children found dead inside a home were victims of homicide, while their mother and grandmother died by suicide.
Police identified the deceased children as Harper Harmon, 13, Hudson Harmon, 11, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon. The children’s mother, 44-year-old Sarah Myers, and grandmother, 64-year-old Amy Steadman, were also found dead during a welfare check after neighbors reported not seeing the family for several days.
Investigation Points to Poisoning and Fatal Injuries
Investigators said evidence collected at the home suggests that multiple prescription and over-the-counter medications were used in an intentional poisoning. Officials also confirmed that one of the children suffered fatal sharp-force injuries.
Police recovered a handwritten note along with other evidence from the residence. While authorities have not released the contents of the note, they believe no outside person was involved in the incident. Toxicology testing and additional forensic examinations remain ongoing as investigators work to determine the complete sequence of events.
Custody Battle Emerges as Part of the Investigation
The case has also drawn attention to an ongoing custody dispute involving the children’s father, Brady Harmon, who lives in Utah. According to officials, he had not seen his children since 2019 and had been pursuing legal efforts to regain visitation rights.
Reports indicate the children were expected to reunite with their father shortly before the tragedy occurred. Authorities have not identified a motive, and they continue to review evidence as part of the investigation.
Police say more information may be released once toxicology reports and forensic analyses are complete.
