Antonio Oseguera Admits Role in Drug Trafficking Conspiracy
Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, the brother of former Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, has pleaded guilty in a U.S. federal court to serious drug trafficking and firearms charges.
The 67-year-old admitted participating in a long-running conspiracy to manufacture and distribute large quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine intended for illegal import into the United States. He also pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm in connection with the drug trafficking operation.
The guilty plea marks another significant development in ongoing U.S. efforts to dismantle major transnational drug trafficking organizations.
Extradited From Mexico After Years of Investigation
Antonio Oseguera was extradited from Mexico to the United States in February 2025 after being wanted by U.S. authorities for his alleged role in cartel activities.
Federal prosecutors stated that he was involved in the drug trafficking conspiracy from 1998 through 2022. Before becoming associated with the CJNG, Oseguera was reportedly linked to the Milenio Cartel, another organized crime group operating in Mexico.
Authorities allege he played an important role in coordinating drug distribution operations that supplied illegal narcotics to the U.S. market.
Sentencing Scheduled as U.S. Increases Pressure on CJNG
Following his guilty plea, Antonio Oseguera now faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 15 years. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for November in a U.S. federal court.
His case comes during a broader crackdown on the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations. U.S. authorities have recently expanded sanctions and enforcement actions targeting individuals and businesses allegedly connected to the cartel’s operations.
Officials continue to describe the campaign as part of a wider effort to disrupt international drug trafficking networks and reduce the flow of illegal narcotics into the United States.
