Tragic Dog Mauling Leads to Criminal Charges
A 73-year-old Thomasville, North Carolina resident died in a harrowing incident involving a group of aggressive dogs on November 18, 2025. Local law enforcement discovered the man’s body in his front yard after responding to what was initially reported as a medical emergency. Investigation findings later confirmed that he suffered fatal injuries consistent with a mauling by a pack of dogs.
Owner Indicted on Murder and Animal Cruelty Counts
In the weeks following the deadly attack, authorities identified 56-year-old Elaina Bryant as the owner of the dogs. A Davidson County grand jury returned an indictment on December 15, charging her with second-degree murder linked to the fatal dog attack, along with ten felony counts of animal abuse for alleged neglect and violation of animal control laws. Bryant was taken into custody and remains jailed under a $500,000 secured bond ahead of her January 5, 2026 court date.

Dogs Captured, Euthanized After Investigation
Davidson County Animal Control officers located the pack of 17 pit bull-mixed breed dogs at a nearby property following reports from first responders. All animals were captured and humanely euthanized. Necropsies later confirmed their involvement in the fatal attack that took the man’s life. Medical examiners ruled the cause of death as injuries sustained from the canine mauling.
