Yung Filly Trial Nears Verdict as Jury Prepares to Deliberate
The high-profile criminal trial involving British YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly, whose legal name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has reached a crucial stage in Australia. After both prosecution and defense teams delivered their closing arguments, the case is now set to be handed over to a jury for deliberation.
The 30-year-old entertainer has pleaded not guilty to all charges stemming from an alleged incident that took place in a Perth hotel room in September 2024 following a music performance.
Serious Charges at the Center of the Case
Barrientos is facing a total of 10 criminal charges, including:
- Six counts of rape
- Three counts of assault causing bodily harm
- One count of choking
According to prosecutors, the alleged victim, who was 20 years old at the time and cannot be identified for legal reasons, initially consented to sexual activity before claiming the encounter turned violent.
During closing arguments, prosecutors alleged that the entertainer used excessive force and ignored the woman’s lack of consent as the situation escalated.
Defense Maintains Encounter Was Consensual
The defense argued that the sexual encounter was entirely consensual and challenged the reliability of the complainant’s account, pointing to alleged inconsistencies in her testimony.
Barrientos testified during the trial that he did not physically assault or choke the woman. While he acknowledged biting her during the encounter, he described the marks as consensual “love bites” and denied any intention to cause harm.
The defense also argued that there is insufficient evidence to prove the criminal allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
Jury to Decide the Outcome
With closing submissions complete, the trial judge is expected to provide legal instructions before the jury begins considering its verdict.
The case has drawn significant international attention due to Yung Filly’s large online following and successful career as a content creator, musician, and television personality.
A verdict is expected once jurors complete their review of the evidence presented throughout the trial. Barrientos remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
