A South Carolina missing persons case may finally be nearing a heartbreaking conclusion after investigators discovered human remains believed to belong to Krystal Anderson, a mother of four who disappeared in 2022.
Officials in Aiken County say the remains were uncovered in a buried site near Highway 37 in the Blackville area. Although DNA testing is still underway, investigators and family members believe the remains are Anderson’s based on personal belongings found at the scene.
Missing Mother Case Took Years to Develop
Krystal Anderson vanished in August 2022, leaving behind her four children and sparking widespread concern among relatives and local authorities. Family members repeatedly stated that Anderson would never willingly abandon her children.
During the investigation, authorities reportedly found Anderson’s DNA inside the trunk of a burned vehicle connected to her boyfriend, Tony Berry. Prosecutors later charged Berry with kidnapping and murder in connection with her disappearance.
Investigators believe Anderson was killed in the Wagener area shortly before she disappeared.
Human Remains Found Near Blackville
Law enforcement officials recently searched a wooded area in Barnwell County after receiving new information connected to the case. Deputies later confirmed that human remains were discovered buried off Highway 37.
Private investigators working alongside the family said several belongings located near the remains appeared to match items owned by Anderson. The discovery has brought renewed emotions for relatives who have spent years searching for answers.
Because of the discovery, Berry’s upcoming court proceedings have reportedly been delayed while investigators continue forensic testing and gather additional evidence.
Family Hopes for Closure After Years of Uncertainty
Anderson’s disappearance deeply affected her children, who have reportedly been living separately with different relatives since she went missing.
Family members say the possible discovery of her remains may finally allow loved ones to properly lay her to rest and help her children begin healing after years of uncertainty.
