Russian Serviceman Detained After Deadly Shooting in Crimea

A Russian serviceman allegedly carried out a deadly shooting in Russian-controlled Crimea, killing four people and injuring four others before being taken into custody, according to local authorities.

The incident took place in the village of Khmelnytske, located within the Sevastopol region of the Black Sea peninsula. Officials said the serviceman first fired at fellow soldiers before turning his weapon on nearby civilians. The motive behind the attack has not yet been disclosed, and investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Soldier and Civilians Among the Victims

Authorities said the gunman initially opened fire on fellow military personnel, killing one soldier and wounding another. He then allegedly shot several civilians, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to three more.

Emergency responders treated the wounded, while law enforcement officers detained the suspect at the scene. Officials have not released the identity of the serviceman or provided further details about what may have triggered the attack.

Investigation Underway as Questions Remain

The Moscow-appointed administration in Sevastopol confirmed that a criminal investigation has been launched. Officials urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigators determine the motive and sequence of events.

Crimea has remained a strategically important region since Russia took control of the peninsula in 2014. The territory continues to play a major role in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and has frequently been at the center of military activity.

While authorities continue gathering evidence, no additional information has been released regarding possible charges or the suspect’s military unit.
