Oakland Adult School Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized
A 25-year-old woman lost her life and another person was injured after a shooting at an adult education campus in Oakland, California, authorities said.
The incident happened on the morning of July 31 at the Parker Community Resource Center, a campus that houses the Oakland Unified School District’s adult education program along with a community health center. Emergency responders found two victims in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, one woman died at the scene, while the second victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Police believe the attack was targeted and have stated there is no indication it was a random act. Investigators say they are following several leads as they work to identify the suspect and determine the motive.
Victim Identified as Carpentry Student
The woman who died has been identified by her family as Kimarii McLemore, 25, who was enrolled in a carpentry training program at the adult school.
Family members said McLemore had previously experienced conflict with another person connected to her class but believed the issue had been resolved. Police have not confirmed whether that earlier dispute is linked to the shooting.
Oakland Police Chief James Beere said investigators are confident they have strong leads and expect to identify those responsible.
Campus Locked Down as Investigation Continues
School officials immediately placed the campus on lockdown after the gunfire. Approximately 20 people were on the property at the time, and no additional injuries were reported.
The Oakland Unified School District described the shooting as a heartbreaking tragedy and said counseling and support services are being provided to students and staff affected by the incident.
McLemore’s family remembered her as a respected and caring member of the community, saying she brought joy to those around her. They also urged an end to violence that continues to devastate families and neighborhoods.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced any arrests or released details about a possible suspect.
