Marine Veteran Dies in Tragic Fox River Boat Crash
A 48-year-old U.S. Marine veteran has been identified as the woman who lost her life in a devastating boating collision on the Fox River in McHenry County, Illinois. Authorities said the victim, Magdalena Jablonska of Des Plaines, died after a high-speed pontoon boat allegedly struck the vessel she was riding in on July 25.
Investigators reported that the collision occurred in the afternoon when the pontoon boat crashed into and passed over another recreational boat. Jablonska suffered fatal blunt force injuries, while her fiancé and the couple’s dog were also injured in the incident. An official investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
Suspect Faces DUI and Reckless Homicide Charges
Authorities arrested 45-year-old Richard Stevenson in connection with the deadly crash. Prosecutors allege he was operating the pontoon boat at an excessive speed before the collision occurred.
He has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death and one count of reckless homicide. Court records indicate that Stevenson remains in custody as legal proceedings continue. Officials are still reviewing evidence related to the fatal boating incident.
Family Remembers a Life Dedicated to Helping Others
Jablonska’s family described her as a compassionate and generous person who spent much of her life helping others. After immigrating from Poland to the Chicago area, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after finishing high school.
According to relatives, she had a deep love for animals and regularly supported dog rescue organizations. In her memory, family members have launched a fundraiser to benefit local dog shelters, saying her commitment to serving both people and animals reflected the values she carried throughout her life.
Local officials also expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones, calling the incident a preventable tragedy and urging boaters to operate responsibly on the water.
