Explosion Hits Jewish School in Amsterdam, Sparks Security Concerns

An explosion outside a Jewish school in Amsterdam early Saturday has raised serious concerns about security for Jewish communities in the Netherlands. Authorities said the blast caused limited structural damage but thankfully resulted in no injuries.

Local officials described the incident as a deliberate act targeting the Jewish community. Police and emergency services quickly responded to the scene, securing the area and beginning an investigation into the suspected attack.

Blast Causes Minor Damage to School Building

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred in a residential neighborhood in the southern part of Amsterdam. The blast damaged parts of the building’s exterior, including a rainpipe and sections of the outer wall.

Despite the damage, no students or staff were harmed. The school, which serves the Orthodox Jewish community in the Netherlands, was closed at the time of the incident. Authorities confirmed that the building itself remained structurally safe.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage that appears to show a person placing an explosive device near the building before the blast. Investigators are working to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the attack.

Authorities Increase Security After Recent Incidents

City officials strongly condemned the explosion and called it an attack against the Jewish community. They also announced that security would be increased around Jewish schools, synagogues, and community centers across the Netherlands.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions following other recent attacks targeting Jewish institutions in Europe, including an arson incident at a synagogue in Rotterdam and a separate explosion at a synagogue in Belgium earlier in the week.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation while urging anyone with information to come forward.
