Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Assault on Russia
A major wave of Ukrainian drone strikes targeted several Russian regions overnight, killing at least four people and injuring others near Moscow in one of the largest aerial assaults since the war began.
Russian officials said hundreds of drones were intercepted across multiple regions, including around the capital. Authorities reported damage to homes, infrastructure, and industrial areas after debris and direct impacts struck several locations.
The attack came shortly after a deadly Russian assault on Kyiv that reportedly killed dozens of civilians earlier this week, further escalating tensions between both countries.
Moscow Region Among Hardest Hit
According to regional officials, casualties were reported in areas surrounding Moscow, including Khimki and nearby villages. Residential buildings were damaged, while emergency crews worked through the night to clear debris and assist trapped residents.
Moscow’s air defense systems reportedly intercepted dozens of incoming drones. Airport operations in parts of the capital region also faced temporary disruptions after drone debris fell near transportation facilities.
Russian authorities claimed more than 500 drones were either destroyed or jammed during the overnight operation, making it one of the largest drone attacks on Russian territory in recent months.
Retaliatory Strikes Intensify the Conflict
The latest escalation follows renewed retaliatory threats from Ukrainian leadership after recent Russian missile and drone strikes caused heavy civilian casualties in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
Military analysts say the growing use of long-range drones by both sides is changing the nature of the conflict, with attacks increasingly reaching deeper into Russian territory and major urban centers.
Despite international diplomatic efforts, fighting continues across several fronts, with both Moscow and Kyiv signaling no immediate reduction in military operations.
