New Orleans Man Arrested After Alleged Online Contact With Undercover Officer
A 75-year-old New Orleans resident who legally changed his name to Santa Claus has been arrested following an undercover child exploitation investigation in Louisiana.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect allegedly contacted an individual he believed was a 15-year-old boy through a dating application. The “minor” was actually an undercover detective participating in a cybercrime operation targeting suspected online child predators. Authorities say the suspect engaged in explicit conversations and arranged a meeting, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Serious Charges Filed Following Undercover Operation
Police have charged the suspect with computer-aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with a juvenile. Investigators also allege that explicit images were shared during the online communication before the planned meeting.
Officials stated that the suspect legally changed his name from George Quigley to Santa Claus after relocating from Texas to New Orleans. Authorities also noted that investigators found photographs showing him dressed as Santa Claus, raising additional concerns because the character is commonly associated with children.
Operation Results in Multiple Arrests
The arrest was part of a larger child exploitation enforcement operation conducted by the Kenner Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit. The investigation resulted in 11 arrests, while arrest warrants have also been issued for 10 additional suspects. Authorities reported multiple criminal charges connected to offenses involving online child exploitation and grooming.
Police emphasized that the operation highlights the ongoing risks children face on social media, gaming platforms, and other online services. Investigators said they will continue conducting proactive operations aimed at identifying individuals who attempt to exploit minors through the internet.
