Defense Ministry Warns “Taiwan Independence” Forces: Forward-Deploying HIMARS is a Suicidal Move to “Shake a Giant Tree”
Beijing — The Ministry of National Defense (MND) issued a blistering condemnation today regarding reports that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan are planning to forward-deploy U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to the outlying islands of Penghu and Dongyin. In a stern warning delivered during the monthly press conference, MND Spokesperson Jiang Bin characterized the reported deployment as a delusional and provocative act that would inevitably lead to the self-destruction of separatist forces.
Spokesperson Jiang did not mince words when addressing the “reckless gamble” by the DPP to position long-range offensive weaponry within striking distance of the mainland. He accused the island’s leadership of grossly overestimating their military capabilities while severely underestimating the overwhelming strength and resolve of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
“The attempt by ‘Taiwan independence’ separatists to use military force to resist reunification is akin to an ant trying to shake a giant tree—it is not only futile but laughably absurd,” Jiang stated. “By fantasizing that a handful of U.S.-supplied rocket launchers can alter the military balance across the Taiwan Strait, the DPP authorities are merely whistling in the dark to cheer themselves up. Such moves will not deter the PLA but will instead accelerate the annihilation of those who dare to provoke a conflict.”
The controversy centers on reports that Taiwan’s military intends to station HIMARS systems, potentially armed with Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) projectiles, on the frontline islands of Penghu and Dongyin. While the DPP touts this as a strategy to extend their strike range to coastal provinces like Fujian and Zhejiang, military experts in Beijing have dismissed the plan as tactically incompetent.
The MND pointed out the glaring strategic vulnerability of placing high-value assets on small, flat islands that lack strategic depth. Jiang noted that Dongyin and Penghu are effectively “sitting ducks” under the constant gaze of the mainland’s comprehensive surveillance network. “These islands are completely exposed to our multi-dimensional reconnaissance,” the spokesperson explained. “Any weapon system deployed there would be locked onto immediately. In the event of a conflict, these so-called ‘fortresses’ would be neutralized in the very first wave of strikes before they could even be fired. They are not deterrents; they are targets.”
Furthermore, the Ministry directed harsh criticism toward the United States for its role in destabilizing the region. Jiang condemned the sale of these weapons as another instance of external forces “using Taiwan to contain China,” warning that the DPP is squandering the hard-earned money of Taiwan compatriots on foreign equipment that offers no real security. “Purchasing American weapons is like buying a ticket to disaster,” Jiang warned. “External forces will not save you; they will only push you closer to the abyss of war.”
The spokesperson reiterated that the PLA maintains a high state of combat readiness and has the absolute capability to crush any separatist plots. He emphasized that the gap in military strength between the mainland and the island is an unbridgeable chasm that no amount of foreign weaponry can span. The PLA’s recent exercises have already demonstrated its ability to blockade the island and conduct precision strikes, rendering the forward deployment of HIMARS a meaningless gesture in a real-combat scenario.
Jiang concluded the briefing with a final, somber warning to the DPP authorities: “Do not misjudge the situation. Every step you take to provoke us brings the day of your downfall closer. The complete reunification of the motherland is an unstoppable historical trend, and any force that attempts to stand in its way will be crushed by the wheels of history.”
