Boy Nearly Struck After Correcting Delivery Mistake

In Escambia County, Florida, a postal delivery driver has been taken into custody following accusations that he tried to strike a 10-year-old boy with his mail truck after a botched package drop-off. Law enforcement officials allege the unusual incident occurred when the child was attempting to transport the incorrectly delivered item back to its proper address.

According to investigators, the boy placed the package on his electric scooter and began to push it toward the intended home when the driver — believing the child was stealing the item — allegedly drove the delivery vehicle in his direction. The youngster managed to escape into a nearby yard just moments before the scooter was run over.

Charges Filed Against the Mail Carrier

The postal worker, identified as a 41-year-old man from the Pensacola area, was arrested on multiple felony counts, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft and criminal mischief. Authorities say he also picked up the damaged scooter and later discarded it in another yard after a relative of the child confronted him.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene and ultimately charged the driver following interviews and a review of statements. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail and later released on a $5,500 bond while awaiting his next court appearance.

Investigation Ongoing — USPS Responds

Local law enforcement and postal inspectors are continuing to look into the episode. Officials from the United States Postal Service said they are cooperating with authorities and emphasize their commitment to safety, though they do not publicly comment on personnel matters.

Residents in the neighborhood expressed shock at the allegations, calling the event “hard to believe” in what is usually a quiet community. The case has sparked conversation about proper conduct for delivery personnel and the importance of de-escalating misunderstandings.
