A California mother is being investigated after a Facebook post asking for someone to temporarily care for her 7-year-old daughter raised serious concerns among local residents and law enforcement.
The social media post quickly spread online, prompting several community members to contact police. Authorities responded by launching an investigation to ensure the child’s safety and determine whether any laws had been violated.
Police Locate Child Safe Following Welfare Check
According to investigators, the now-deleted Facebook post asked if anyone with a daughter of a similar age could temporarily provide a home for the child while she continued attending school in the same area.
After receiving multiple reports, officers initially had difficulty contacting the mother. The case was later assigned to detectives, who located both the woman and her daughter. A welfare check confirmed that the child was safe and unharmed.
Family Connected With Child Support Services
Following the welfare check, authorities referred the mother to local child support resources and connected the family with Butte County Child Services. Officials also confirmed that the investigation has been forwarded to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office for review to determine whether further legal action is necessary.
Police emphasized that while the child was found safe, seeking childcare arrangements through public social media platforms can expose children and families to significant safety risks.
Community Reports Helped Ensure Child’s Safety
The Chico Police Department thanked residents who reported the Facebook post, stating that the quick response from the public allowed officers to locate the family, verify the child’s well-being, and connect them with available support services.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident while encouraging parents facing personal or family difficulties to seek assistance through established community organizations rather than relying on online strangers.
