A heartbreaking child neglect case in Indiana has shocked authorities after a 2-year-old boy was found dead in his home, allegedly after enduring weeks of severe starvation and unsafe living conditions. Investigators say the child resorted to eating non-food items like drywall and parts of diapers in a desperate attempt to stay alive.

Child Found Unresponsive After Hours Without Care

Police were called to a residence on March 31 after a report of an unresponsive child. When emergency responders arrived, they attempted life-saving measures, but the toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe the child had already been dead for several hours. According to initial findings, the caregivers claimed they had last seen the boy alive the previous night—more than half a day before emergency services were contacted.

Signs of Severe Starvation and Neglect

Investigators described the child as extremely underweight and malnourished, weighing far below what is considered normal for his age. His body reportedly showed multiple sores and insect bites, indicating prolonged neglect.

Medical examinations revealed shocking details: materials found inside the child’s body were consistent with drywall, paint fragments, and diaper components. Officials believe the toddler consumed these items due to extreme hunger.

Disturbing Living Conditions Discovered

A search of the home uncovered unsafe and unhygienic conditions. Officers reported seeing trash, feces, insects, and scattered debris—including torn diapers and drywall pieces—throughout the children’s living spaces.

Other children in the home were removed by authorities for their safety, with at least one reportedly suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.

Two adults connected to the case have been arrested and are facing serious charges, including murder and child neglect resulting in death.
