Texas Man Arrested at Miami Airport After Allegedly Packing 75 Pounds of Marijuana for London Flight f0c0b8283511d412aabe8f2dd54fc0d3 1

A young traveler from Texas was taken into custody at Miami International Airport after authorities say they discovered dozens of vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana hidden inside his checked luggage. The suspect, who was preparing to board an international flight to London, now faces serious drug trafficking charges after investigators found nearly 75 pounds of cannabis in his bags during an airport inspection.

Large Quantity of Marijuana Found in Checked Bags

According to officials, the suspect — identified as 23-year-old Harrison O’Neill Tiernan from Austin, Texas — had already checked two suitcases before his scheduled departure to London’s Heathrow Airport. During a routine inspection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers examined the luggage and discovered multiple vacuum-sealed packages containing a green leafy substance.

Authorities later confirmed the substance was marijuana. In total, investigators reported finding about 65 sealed bundles weighing close to 75 pounds (around 34 kilograms) combined. The inspection was reportedly part of increased monitoring efforts at the airport due to concerns about drugs being smuggled out of the United States.

Arrest and Drug Trafficking Charges

After the discovery, officers detained Tiernan at the airport and transferred the case to local law enforcement. Investigators said federal authorities initially reviewed the case but chose not to pursue federal charges because the amount did not meet the required threshold for federal prosecution.

The case was then handled by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was charged with cannabis trafficking involving more than 25 pounds but less than 2,000 pounds and was booked into the Metro West Detention Center on March 7.

Court Appearance and Investigation Continues

Court records indicate the suspect later appeared before a judge, where a $20,000 bond was set. If released, he may be required to wear a GPS monitoring device while awaiting further legal proceedings. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt to transport the drugs overseas.

Officials have emphasized that international airports are closely monitoring outbound flights as part of broader efforts to prevent drug trafficking through major travel hubs.
