Tragic Domestic Violence Shooting in Northwest D.C. Shakes Community

A devastating shooting in Northwest Washington, D.C. claimed the life of a 34-year-old mother of three and injured her 10-year-old daughter on February 11, authorities reported. The woman’s former partner, identified as the primary suspect, also fled the scene with their toddler son, prompting a citywide Amber Alert before dying by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

According to police, the victim had recently taken steps to end the relationship, and the violence erupted outside her apartment in the Glover Park neighborhood, where her children witnessed the attack.

Victim’s Struggle and Family Response

Family members described the slain woman as a devoted mother who battled serious health issues, including chronic kidney disease and lupus, while always prioritizing her children’s well-being. Her 10-year-old daughter, who was struck during the shooting, survived and is recovering after being treated at a local hospital.

The suspect reportedly left the scene with the couple’s 3-year-old son, but officers located the boy safe at a relative’s home following pursuit of the suspect, who later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after crashing his vehicle.

A fund has since been established by grieving relatives to help cover funeral costs and support the children’s ongoing needs amid the family’s profound loss.

Community and Safety Concerns After Deadly Confrontation

Neighbors and local leaders expressed deep shock over the sudden episode of domestic violence in a typically quiet area of the city. This incident underscores the ongoing concerns about intimate partner violence and the tragic toll it can take on families across communities.

Authorities remind anyone experiencing domestic abuse to contact local support hotlines and services for immediate help and safety planning.
