Louisiana Standoff Ends with Federal Murder Charge

A 48-year-old Louisiana man has been federally charged after authorities say a Deputy U.S. Marshal was fatally shot while officers attempted to arrest him at his Alexandria residence.

According to investigators, the suspect, Clarence A. Frazier Jr., was wanted after failing to appear in court for an upcoming trial involving serious sexual assault-related charges. Law enforcement officers arrived at his home to execute an arrest warrant, but the operation quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation.

The suspect now faces a federal charge of murdering a federal law enforcement officer, an offense that carries the possibility of life in prison or the death penalty if he is convicted.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Killed During Arrest Attempt

Officials said federal and local law enforcement officers announced their presence before entering the residence. After entering the home, they encountered the suspect barricaded inside a bedroom.

Authorities allege that Frazier opened fire on officers, striking Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson. Despite emergency efforts, Hanson died from his injuries. The suspect remained barricaded for a period before eventually being taken into custody following the standoff.

Investigation Continues as Officials Seek Justice

Federal investigators, including the FBI and local law enforcement agencies, are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Court records indicate the suspect had failed to appear for trial on charges connected to a 2024 case involving third-degree rape and sexual battery against a person with infirmities. Prosecutors emphasized that violence against federal officers will be pursued aggressively under federal law.

Authorities have not announced additional charges beyond the federal murder accusation, and the investigation remains ongoing.
