Grandmother Suspected After Six Family Members Found Dead in New York
Authorities in upstate New York are investigating a heartbreaking case after six members of the same family were discovered dead inside an apartment, with investigators believing the deaths may have resulted from an intentional poisoning.
Police identified the suspected individual as Amy Steadman, 64, who was found dead alongside her daughter, Sarah Myers, 44, and Myers’ four children. Officials say the investigation remains active as forensic testing continues.
Police Say Evidence Points to Intentional Poisoning
Officers responded to the family’s apartment in Mechanicville after concerned neighbors requested a welfare check when they had not seen the family for several days.
During the investigation, detectives recovered medications, a handwritten note, and other evidence inside the residence. According to police, the findings strongly suggest the poisoning was intentional. Investigators also stated that there is currently no indication that anyone outside the family was involved.
Authorities have not released a possible motive, and toxicology reports are still pending to determine the exact causes of death.
Victims Included Four Young Children
The victims include Sarah Myers and her four children:
- Harper Harmon, 13
- Hudson Harmon, 11
- Twins Gavin Harmon and Gracelynn Harmon, 10
Police believe the family had been deceased for an extended period before they were discovered during the welfare check.
The tragedy has deeply affected the close-knit community, with local officials describing the incident as one of the most devastating cases the city has experienced.
Children’s Father Speaks Out
The children’s father, Brady Harmon, expressed his grief after learning of the deaths. He said he had spent years pursuing custody and visitation through the courts and was only days away from reuniting with his children.
Harmon described the loss as unimaginable and said he never expected the custody battle to end in such a devastating way.
Investigation Continues
Law enforcement officials continue to process evidence and await final forensic and toxicology results before determining the official causes and manner of death. Investigators have not announced any criminal charges because the primary suspect is also among the deceased.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to establish the complete sequence of events leading to the deaths.
