Mission Viejo Crash Leaves 21-Year-Old Woman Dead

A 21-year-old woman was killed in a serious traffic collision in Mission Viejo, California, after authorities said a suspected street race may have led to the crash. Her 20-year-old brother and another young driver have since been arrested on allegations of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

The collision happened on Thursday, Aug. 20, at approximately 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of Los Alisos Boulevard and Mustang Run. Deputies responding to the incident found the woman dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as Shalia Deciderio of Rancho Santa Margarita.

Brother Among Two Men Facing Manslaughter Charges

Investigators identified the two drivers involved as Aiden Deciderio, 20, and Jaime Rojas, 20, of Mission Viejo. Aiden, who was Shalia’s brother, remained at the crash site after the collision.

Rojas was transported to a hospital following the crash. Both men were arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. Aiden was booked on Friday, while authorities indicated that Rojas is expected to be booked after he is released from medical care.

According to investigators, the circumstances surrounding the collision point to a possible illegal street race. Authorities have not publicly established all details about how the vehicles were traveling immediately before the crash.

Family Remembers Shalia as a Loving Mother

Shalia’s death has left her family and community mourning the loss of a young mother. A fundraising campaign organized by her family described her as a caring, energetic and outgoing person whose presence brought happiness to those around her.

The family said Shalia leaves behind a young child. Donations raised through the fundraiser are intended to help cover funeral and memorial expenses.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the fatal collision. Investigators are seeking additional information that could help clarify what happened before the crash.
