Former Pakistani Politician Faces Serious Criminal Investigation in UK
A former Pakistani state minister has been arrested by police in the United Kingdom over allegations of child rape and child trafficking connected to incidents that allegedly took place in Manchester during the early 1990s.
The politician, identified as Rukhsar Ahmed, was reportedly detained at Manchester Airport in July 2024 and later released on police bail while the investigation continued. Authorities are examining claims made by multiple women who allege they were abused as children while living in care during that period.
Investigation Focuses on Alleged Grooming Gang Activity
According to investigators, the case is linked to a wider inquiry into historic child sexual exploitation involving vulnerable girls in Manchester. Detectives are investigating allegations that Ahmed was involved in the abuse and trafficking of children as part of an alleged grooming network operating in the city during the 1990s.
Police questioned Ahmed after his arrest, and reports indicate that he remains under investigation. Officials have stated that the case involves allegations from more than one complainant, with inquiries continuing to determine the full scope of the claims.
Bail Conditions and Political Role Draw Attention
Authorities expected Ahmed to report back to police after being released on bail. However, he reportedly did not return as scheduled, citing health reasons that allegedly prevented travel to the UK. At the same time, photographs circulating on social media appeared to show him participating in election campaign events in Pakistan.
Ahmed was recently re-elected to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and is associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Reports also indicate that Greater Manchester Police previously sought stricter bail conditions to limit his overseas travel, but those restrictions were not approved by the court.
Police have said the investigation remains active, and further legal action could follow depending on the outcome of the inquiry. No criminal conviction has been made, and the allegations remain under investigation
