Kansas Husband Receives Life Sentence in Thanksgiving Day Murder Case
A Kansas court has sentenced a man to life in prison after he was convicted of killing his estranged wife, who was discovered dead in her home on Thanksgiving Day in 2024. Prosecutors said the crime came just weeks after the victim sought legal protection from her husband during their separation.
The victim, Monica Brook McKay, 50, was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her Tecumseh home after her son arrived for a planned Thanksgiving lunch. Authorities later determined her death was a homicide, ending a months-long investigation that resulted in the arrest and conviction of her husband, Brian P. McKay.
Investigation Revealed Evidence of Stalking and Surveillance
According to court records, Monica had recently filed for divorce and secured a protection-from-stalking order against Brian before her death. Family members had previously discovered hidden cameras and recording devices inside the home, leading investigators to believe she had been secretly monitored.
An autopsy concluded that Monica died from drowning, with strangulation and multiple blunt force injuries identified as contributing factors.
