Russian Soldier’s Shooting Rampage Leaves Four Dead in Crimea

A Russian serviceman has been detained after allegedly opening fire on fellow military personnel and civilians in Russian-controlled Crimea, resulting in four deaths and four injuries. Officials in Sevastopol confirmed that law enforcement has started an investigation into the deadly incident, while the motive remains unknown.

The shooting reportedly took place in the village of Khmelnytske, located within the Sevastopol region of Crimea. Authorities have not disclosed the exact time of the attack.

Soldier Allegedly Targeted Fellow Troops Before Attacking Civilians

According to local officials, the serviceman first opened fire on fellow soldiers, killing one and injuring another. He then allegedly turned his weapon on nearby civilians, killing three people and injuring three more.

Emergency responders treated the injured victims, while security personnel quickly detained the suspected gunman. Officials have not released the identity of the suspect or provided details about what may have triggered the attack.

Investigation Underway as Questions Remain

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting and have not announced any criminal charges or findings regarding the motive.

Crimea has remained under Russian control since its annexation in 2014, a move widely rejected by Ukraine and much of the international community. The peninsula continues to play a significant strategic role in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
