KYIV, Ukraine — Russia launched a large-scale overnight aerial attack on Ukraine’s capital region, killing at least 11 people and injuring several others, according to Ukrainian authorities. The assault involved a combination of drones and missiles and caused damage to civilian areas and infrastructure.
The latest attack came amid a continuing series of heavy Russian strikes targeting Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine.
Large-Scale Attack Hits Kyiv and Surrounding Areas
The overnight barrage began with waves of drones and missiles directed at Kyiv and nearby communities. Ukrainian officials reported that residential areas and key infrastructure were among the locations affected.
Ukraine’s air force said the attack involved ballistic, cruise and other missiles, along with more than 200 drones and decoys. A significant number of the drones were reportedly high-speed, jet-powered models that are more difficult for air-defense systems to intercept.
Emergency crews were deployed to affected areas to put out fires, rescue people and assess the destruction.

Authorities initially reported at least 11 deaths, while more than a dozen people were injured, including children. The number of casualties could change as rescue operations continue and officials gather more information from damaged sites.
