Swiss authorities have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a deadly shooting at a rave in the northern town of Aarau, bringing a major police operation to a key development.
The shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday at an event held at a covered horse racing track. A 22-year-old Italian woman was killed, while five other people suffered injuries.
43-Year-Old Suspect Taken Into Custody
Police in the canton of Aargau said the suspect was detained shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday following an extensive search operation.
Investigators currently believe that a single person carried out the attack. However, authorities are continuing to examine the full sequence of events and have not yet disclosed a possible motive.
One Woman Killed and Five Others Injured
The violence erupted as the rave was taking place at the horse racing venue in Aarau. The 22-year-old victim died as a result of the shooting.
Five other people were injured in the incident and required medical attention. Authorities had earlier launched a large-scale investigation and search operation following the attack.
Investigation Into Motive Continues
Police are still working to determine why the shooting took place and what led to the deadly violence.
Earlier investigations considered several possible explanations, including a targeted criminal act, a mass shooting or a potential extremist motive. Evidence recovered at the scene, including ammunition of different calibres, is also being examined as part of the investigation.
