Former Pakistani Politician Detained in UK Investigation
A former Pakistani government minister has been arrested in the United Kingdom as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged child sexual abuse dating back to the 1990s in Manchester.
The 62-year-old politician, Rukhsar Ahmed, is under investigation over allegations of rape and child trafficking involving vulnerable girls who were reportedly living in care during the early 1990s. Authorities arrested him at Manchester Airport in July 2024, and he was later released on police bail while the investigation continued.
The case has drawn significant attention after Ahmed was recently elected to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, where he represents the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Investigation Centers on Alleged Abuse in Manchester
According to investigators, the allegations involve multiple women who claim they were abused as children in Manchester more than three decades ago. Police are examining claims that Ahmed participated in the rape and trafficking of vulnerable girls connected to care homes during that period.
Detectives reportedly questioned Ahmed after his arrest regarding accusations from at least two alleged victims. Authorities say the wider investigation includes statements from several women connected to historic child abuse cases. Ahmed has not been convicted of any offence, and the investigation remains active.
Bail Issues and Possible Legal Action
Police expected Ahmed to answer his bail conditions in Manchester but said he did not attend a scheduled appointment, reportedly citing health reasons. Around the same time, images circulated on social media showing him taking part in political campaign events in Pakistan.
Greater Manchester Police had previously sought stricter bail conditions to limit his overseas travel, but those requests were not approved by the court. Officials are expected to decide on further legal action if Ahmed does not comply with future bail requirements, with options potentially including an arrest warrant or extradition proceedings.
Political and Diplomatic Attention
The case has attracted attention in both the UK and Pakistan because of Ahmed’s political position and influence within the British-Pakistani community. Investigators continue gathering evidence while legal proceedings remain ongoing.
As of now, no criminal conviction has been made, and Ahmed has not publicly responded to the allegations. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is continuing.
