Authorities in Worcester, Massachusetts, have issued an arrest warrant for Karen Solomon, 58, after her husband, longtime police officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead at their home. Solomon remained missing for several days as police conducted an extensive search across the area.

Police Search Intensifies After Officer’s Death

Worcester police responded to a call at the couple’s home shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, where they discovered Kurt Solomon, a 31-year veteran of the police department, fatally injured.

Police Chief Paul Saucier said the officer suffered a deadly injury involving a sharp object, although investigators have not disclosed the specific weapon involved.

Investigators later identified Karen Solomon as a person wanted for questioning in connection with the death. An arrest warrant was issued charging her with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Authorities said Solomon was last seen on doorbell-camera footage early Tuesday morning. The video showed her walking along a street wearing a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops, shortly after police arrived at the home.

Extensive Search Underway in Worcester

A large-scale search was launched as investigators attempted to locate Solomon. Police officers, tracking dogs, dive teams, boats and drones were involved in efforts that extended around Worcester, including areas near Coes Pond.

Officials also distributed photographs of Solomon and asked members of the public to provide information that could help locate her.

Authorities declined to provide details about the current status of the couple’s relationship, citing privacy protections associated with domestic violence cases. Court records indicated that Karen and Kurt Solomon had been married and shared a home.

Mental Health Advocate Remembered for Supporting First Responders

Karen Solomon has been involved in efforts to raise awareness about mental health among police officers and other first responders. She helped establish First H.E.L.P., an organization focused on supporting law enforcement personnel and their families.

She also authored books examining the physical and psychological challenges faced by first responders.

Meanwhile, Kurt Solomon was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated officer and respected member of the Worcester community. Police officials said he had also enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening and spending time outdoors.

A wake for the veteran officer was scheduled for Tuesday, followed by his funeral on Wednesday.
