The UK government is considering launching a public inquiry into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s activities in Britain, according to Victims Minister Alex Davies-Jones.

The proposal comes as authorities continue investigating allegations linked to Epstein, including child sexual abuse, human trafficking involving UK airports, and possible misconduct by public officials. Prime Minister Andy Burnham is also expected to meet with survivors as the government explores additional steps to address the long-running case.

Prime Minister Reviewing Options for a Public Inquiry

Speaking about the government’s approach, Victims Minister Alex Davies-Jones said officials are reviewing what legal and investigative options are available, including the possibility of an independent public inquiry.

Burnham, who became prime minister in July, has reportedly committed to meeting with survivors of Epstein’s crimes. The government says it wants to ensure victims’ voices are heard while evaluating whether a formal inquiry would help uncover unanswered questions surrounding Epstein’s connections and activities in the UK.

Police Continue Investigating Epstein-Related Allegations

British police are continuing to examine a wide range of allegations connected to Epstein. Investigators are looking into claims of child sexual abuse, the trafficking of women through UK airports, and potential misconduct involving public officials.

Although Epstein died nearly seven years ago, the case continues to generate public and political attention as investigators work through evidence and allegations that may involve individuals and institutions in Britain.

Inquiry Could Also Examine Mohamed Al-Fayed Allegations

Government officials indicated that any future inquiry could also include allegations made against the late Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed.

Hundreds of people have accused Al-Fayed of sexual offences spanning several decades. Law enforcement agencies are currently reviewing numerous complaints related to those allegations, making the broader issue of institutional accountability a growing focus for policymakers.

While no final decision has been made, the government says it is carefully assessing whether a public inquiry would provide greater transparency, support victims, and help identify lessons for future safeguarding and justice reforms.
