Trump Slams Prosecutor Over Dismissed Reflecting Pool Case

President Donald Trump has openly criticized U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro after her office dropped criminal charges in a high-profile case involving alleged vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C.

Speaking publicly and later posting on social media, Trump said he believed Pirro made the wrong decision by ending the prosecution. He argued that surveillance footage and other evidence supported claims that the pool had been intentionally damaged, insisting he disagreed completely with the Justice Department’s conclusion.

The disagreement marks a rare public clash between Trump and one of his longtime political allies.

Justice Department Says Damage Was Not Caused by Vandalism

Federal prosecutors dismissed charges after reviewing new information that suggested the Reflecting Pool’s damage was the result of construction and installation problems rather than deliberate vandalism.

The case had focused on former Olympian David Hearn, who had been accused of damaging the recently renovated pool. However, investigators later concluded that flaws in the pool’s liner and the renovation process were responsible for the peeling and other visible issues.

As a result, prosecutors decided they could no longer support the criminal case, leading to the dismissal of charges against Hearn and others connected to the investigation.

Reflecting Pool Project Remains Under Scrutiny

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation has faced ongoing criticism since its completion. The multimillion-dollar project experienced several problems, including algae growth, peeling liner material, and repeated repair work shortly after reopening.

Despite the Justice Department’s findings, Trump continues to maintain that vandals caused significant damage to the landmark and has defended his administration’s handling of the renovation project.

The controversy has also renewed attention on the cost of the renovation, the construction process, and future repairs needed to restore the Reflecting Pool.
