Illinois Mom Accused of Killing 2-Year-Old Son Allegedly Said She Wanted to Harm Her Other Children and Husband

An Illinois mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son allegedly told investigators that she believed the child was the devil and expressed intentions to harm her other children and husband, according to prosecutors. The disturbing allegations emerged after the toddler was found hanging from a basement rafter at the family’s home in Frankfort, Illinois.

Illinois Mother Faces Murder Charges After Toddler’s Death

Corie Walsh, 40, was arrested following the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, on September 1, 2026. Police discovered the child in the basement of the family residence, according to authorities.

Court documents allege that Walsh was later found in a bathtub attempting to harm herself with a knife. A neighbor reportedly discovered the scene and contacted police.

The case has drawn attention because of the allegations involving Walsh’s other children and her husband.

Prosecutors Detail Alleged Threats Against Family

According to a petition filed by prosecutors seeking to deny Walsh pretrial release, the mother allegedly made statements about harming her three other children. She also reportedly indicated that she intended to hurt her husband when he returned home.

Prosecutors further alleged that Walsh said she planned to poison her husband by giving him a drink.

One of Walsh’s other children is an infant who was present in the home when Barrett died. The infant was not harmed. Her two school-age children reportedly returned home that afternoon and were also unharmed.

Investigators said Walsh allegedly told police that she had harmed Barrett because she believed he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ.”

Defense Raises Mental Health Concerns

During a court hearing, Walsh’s attorney reportedly argued that she was experiencing severe mental illness at the time of the alleged killing. Her lawyer described her condition as a brief psychotic disorder and said she needed treatment.

The mental health claims are expected to be an important part of the legal proceedings. However, the allegations remain unproven, and Walsh is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Charges and Upcoming Court Hearing

Walsh has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, according to online court records. The records did not show plea information as of the report’s publication.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 24, 2026.

The investigation and court proceedings are ongoing.
