Teen Arrested in Connection With East St. Louis Homicide
A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 78-year-old man in East St. Louis, Illinois, after investigators linked the juvenile to a homicide that has drawn widespread attention due to disturbing surveillance footage.
Authorities said the victim, identified as John Wesley Allen Sr., was discovered lying in a roadway near the intersection of North 76th Street and State Street at approximately 10 p.m. on August 3. The St. Clair County Coroner determined that Allen died from multiple stab wounds.
Illinois State Police later located the teenage suspect at a residence and took the juvenile into custody without incident. Officials have not publicly released the suspect’s identity because of the person’s age, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Ring Camera Video Shows Person in Clown Costume
As investigators continued gathering evidence, a Ring doorbell video circulated online showing a person dressed in a clown costume approaching a nearby home earlier that evening.
The individual reportedly left a chilling message, saying, “I’ve been looking for you,” before remaining on the property for several minutes and walking behind the house.
A resident whose family encountered the costumed individual said his mother was home alone at the time and was left shaken by the incident. Authorities are reviewing the surveillance footage as part of the homicide investigation and are working to collect any additional videos recorded in the area.
Police Continue Investigation, Seek Additional Evidence
Illinois State Police said there is currently no ongoing threat to the public, but detectives are asking anyone with surveillance footage or information related to the case to come forward.
Officials have not announced a possible motive or explained whether the suspect knew the victim. They also have not confirmed what charges may be filed, as the investigation remains active.
Prosecutors and investigators are expected to determine the next legal steps as forensic evidence and witness statements continue to be reviewed.
