The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran or groups linked to Tehran of carrying out a drone strike near the Barakah nuclear power plant, escalating fears of a wider regional conflict in the Middle East. The incident caused a fire near the facility but officials confirmed there were no injuries, radiation leaks, or danger to the public.

The strike comes during ongoing tensions between Iran, the United States, and several Gulf nations as ceasefire talks remain uncertain.

Drone Strike Triggers Fire Near Barakah Plant

According to UAE authorities, three drones entered the country from the western direction. Air defense systems reportedly intercepted two of the drones, while the third struck an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear facility in the Al Dhafra region.

Emergency teams quickly controlled the fire, and nuclear regulators stated that all reactors continued operating safely without any radiation impact.

The Barakah plant is considered one of the most important energy facilities in the Arab world and plays a major role in the UAE’s electricity production.

UAE Blames Iran or Regional Proxies

Senior Emirati officials described the incident as a “dangerous escalation” and suggested that Iran or Iran-backed proxy groups were responsible for the attack. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact source of the drones.

The UAE also informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the strike. The UN nuclear watchdog expressed concern over military actions near nuclear infrastructure and warned that such attacks could threaten regional security and civilian safety.

Saudi Arabia and several regional countries condemned the attack and voiced support for the UAE.

Trump Issues Fresh Warning to Iran

The incident unfolded as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to rise. Former US President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to Iran, saying negotiations must move quickly or Tehran could face serious consequences.

Reports indicated that US and Israeli officials were discussing possible next steps amid fears that the fragile ceasefire in the region could collapse.

The drone strike has added new pressure on diplomatic efforts already struggling to reduce tensions across the Gulf region.
