WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A shocking domestic tragedy unfolded early Saturday morning when police responding to a suburban home in Woodbridge discovered four members of a family dead in what investigators are calling an apparent murder-suicide. The heartbreaking scene has left neighbors and local officials deeply shaken as authorities work to piece together exactly what happened.
Victims Identified, Suspect Named
Police from the Prince William County department were called to the 3400 block of Vale Court around 8:05 a.m. after a relative reported concerns from inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of three adults — a woman in her late 60s, a man in his 40s, and their 2-year-old grandson — along with the presumed suspect, a 35-year-old woman.
Authorities say the woman is believed to have fatally stabbed her husband, their young child and her mother-in-law before taking her own life. All victims were pronounced dead at the scene from knife-related wounds, and the suspected weapon was recovered by investigators.
Sole Family Member Survives
The only surviving family member, the father of the suspected perpetrator’s husband, was not present in the main area of the home during the incident. He had been in the basement when the killings occurred and made the distressing discovery. Police have praised his cooperation and say he is providing investigators with vital information as the probe continues.
Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
Neighbors described the incident as unfathomable and deeply disturbing, especially given the involvement of a small child. Local residents expressed sorrow and disbelief, with many saying they had seen the family in the neighborhood and were struggling to comprehend the violence of the situation.
Police Chief Peter Newsham called the case horrific, emphasizing that no clear motive has yet been determined. Officials continue to urge anyone with relevant information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
