Timothy Busfield Challenges Grand Jury Indictment
Actor Timothy Busfield has filed a motion requesting that a New Mexico judge throw out the grand jury indictment connected to his ongoing criminal case. The 69-year-old actor, known for roles in television and film, maintains his innocence and argues that the legal process leading to the indictment was flawed.
Busfield previously pleaded not guilty to four felony counts involving allegations of criminal sexual contact with minors. His trial is currently expected to begin in 2027.
Defense Alleges Prosecutorial Misconduct
According to Busfield’s legal team, prosecutors committed serious misconduct during the grand jury proceedings. His attorneys argue that important evidence favorable to the defense was not presented and that jurors were prevented from hearing testimony and witnesses that could have affected their decision.
The defense claims these actions violated Busfield’s constitutional rights and deprived him of a fair process. They are asking the court to dismiss the indictment based on those allegations.
Charges Stem From Alleged Incidents in New Mexico
The charges relate to alleged incidents that reportedly occurred in 2022 and 2023. Busfield was arrested earlier this year and later released under court-imposed conditions, including restrictions involving contact with the alleged victims and unsupervised interaction with children.
Prosecutors secured four third-degree felony charges after a grand jury review. Busfield has consistently denied the accusations and said he intends to fight the case in court.
Trial Remains Scheduled for 2027
Despite the new motion, the case remains active. If the judge rejects the request to dismiss the indictment, the proceedings are expected to continue toward trial, which is currently scheduled for May 2027.
Busfield’s attorneys have stated that they believe the evidence does not support the allegations and that they intend to challenge the prosecution’s case during trial.
