Police Probe Possible Targeted Assassination
According to officials, the victim suffered five gunshot wounds, including one to the head. Authorities recovered shell casings and other forensic evidence at the location as investigators began examining possible motives behind the killing.
Two Belarusian nationals have been detained for questioning, although no formal charges have been announced. Police are also reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspected shooter remains at large, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Artist Was Known for Anti-Kremlin Works
Skrepetsky gained attention for his provocative artwork and public demonstrations aimed at Russian leadership and its allies. Living outside Russia, he had become a recognizable figure among critics of the Kremlin.
In recent weeks, he had staged protests and continued producing politically charged pieces. Reports indicated he had previously received threats linked to his outspoken views.
The killing has drawn renewed attention to the risks faced by Russian dissidents and critics living abroad, with investigators working to determine whether the attack was politically motivated.
