Suspect Dies Following Standoff With Police
Authorities identified the suspected gunman as 45-year-old Victor Mata Villarreal of Odessa. Investigators said he had already been wanted in connection with an earlier case involving the attempted murder of a police officer.
After the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself inside a building, leading to a tense standoff that lasted for several hours. Law enforcement later confirmed that the situation had ended and the suspect was found dead.
The FBI and other agencies assisted local police during the operation. Officials have not yet released information about a possible motive.
