Brooklyn Couple Faces Murder Charges After Toddler’s Death
A New York mother and her boyfriend are facing multiple criminal charges after prosecutors accused them of causing the death of the woman’s 3-year-old son through prolonged abuse, starvation, and dehydration.
According to investigators, the child was taken to a hospital in Brooklyn after he was found unresponsive. Medical personnel pronounced the toddler dead shortly after arrival. Authorities allege that the boy had suffered extensive injuries and severe neglect before his death.
Prosecutors Say Child Endured Repeated Abuse
Officials identified the defendants as 25-year-old Sunshyne Davis and 39-year-old Robert White. Prosecutors claim the young victim died from a combination of blunt-force trauma, starvation, and dehydration.
Investigators said the pair had been living out of White’s vehicle at the time of the incident. Authorities further alleged that the child endured repeated physical abuse over an extended period.
White also faces an additional assault charge related to accusations that he struck the boy multiple times.
Charges Include Murder and Child Endangerment
Both defendants have been indicted on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child. Officials said the case represents a tragic example of extreme child abuse and vowed to seek justice for the young victim.
Prosecutors have not publicly disclosed whether either defendant has entered a plea or retained legal representation.
Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to report suspected child abuse and neglect to appropriate authorities to help protect vulnerable children.
