A tragic incident at Denver International Airport has raised serious questions about airport security after a man was fatally struck by a departing passenger plane late Friday night.

Officials said the man entered a restricted runway area after climbing over a perimeter fence before being hit by a Frontier Airlines aircraft during takeoff preparations. The collision forced the pilots to abort takeoff and triggered an emergency evacuation of everyone onboard.

The aircraft, an Airbus A321 headed to Los Angeles, was carrying more than 220 passengers and crew members when the incident occurred. Several passengers suffered minor injuries during the evacuation, while emergency crews quickly responded to contain a brief engine fire.

Security Breach Under Investigation

Authorities confirmed the individual was not an airport employee and had gained unauthorized access to the airfield shortly before the accident. Investigators are now reviewing airport surveillance systems, fence security, and emergency response procedures.

According to officials, alarms were triggered around the time the person entered the runway area, but the situation was not immediately identified as a human intrusion. Federal aviation agencies and local law enforcement are now working together to determine exactly how the breach happened.

Denver International Airport, one of the largest airports in the United States by land area, has faced ongoing challenges related to perimeter security because of its massive size and open landscape.

Emergency Evacuation Leaves Several Injured

Passengers described hearing a loud impact moments before smoke appeared near one of the aircraft engines. The pilot immediately stopped the aircraft, and cabin crews launched emergency evacuation procedures using inflatable slides.

Airport officials reported that more than a dozen people suffered minor injuries during the evacuation process, with several taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Most injuries were linked to the emergency exit procedure and panic during the evacuation.

Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the engine fire before it spread further. The runway was temporarily shut down while investigators examined the scene.

Federal Agencies Reviewing Incident

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are gathering details related to the crash and the emergency response. Officials are also evaluating whether additional safety measures are needed at the airport.

Transportation officials described the event as a deeply disturbing incident that has affected passengers, airport workers, and emergency responders alike. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the victim or the security breach to contact investigators.

Airport management has also announced a full review of perimeter protection systems and runway monitoring procedures following the fatal collision.
