A tragic shooting near Loyola University Chicago has left an 18-year-old student dead, sending shockwaves through the campus community. The incident occurred late at night near the lakefront, where the student was walking with friends when a gunman suddenly opened fire. Authorities are continuing their investigation as students and staff mourn the loss.
Gunman Opens Fire on Group Near Beach
According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of March 19 near Tobey Prinz Beach, close to the university’s Lake Shore campus. A masked suspect approached a group of students and fired multiple shots in their direction.
The victim, identified as 18-year-old freshman Sheridan Gorman, was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that no one else in the group was injured during the attack.
Police Suspect Random Attack, No Arrest Yet
Investigators believe the victim may not have been the intended target, suggesting the shooting could have been random. The suspect, described as wearing a face covering, fled the scene and remains at large.
Law enforcement agencies are actively working to identify and locate the shooter, while urging anyone with information to come forward.
