Long Island Teacher Faces Murder Charge in Sister-in-Law’s Death
A 27-year-old music teacher from Long Island has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of his 25-year-old sister-in-law in Massapequa, New York. Prosecutors allege the suspect had been obsessed with the victim for several years before carrying out the fatal attack while his wife was out of town.
According to investigators, the victim and the accused lived in the same house but occupied separate apartments. The incident reportedly occurred while the suspect’s wife was attending a bachelorette celebration.
Prosecutors Detail Alleged Planned Attack
Authorities claim the suspect asked the victim to help him move a piano before allegedly placing her in a chokehold until she lost consciousness. Prosecutors further allege that he sexually assaulted the victim after the attack.
Investigators also claim the suspect admitted he had been attracted to his sister-in-law since 2017. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case is expected to move through the court system in the coming months.
Victim Remembered as Dedicated Ph.D. Student
The victim was pursuing a Ph.D. in Geosciences at Stony Brook University and was described by those who knew her as a hardworking and promising student with a bright future.
The accused, who worked as a tenured music teacher, has received support from his defense attorney, who said the allegations are inconsistent with the reputation he built among students, colleagues, friends, and family. However, prosecutors maintain that the evidence supports the serious charges filed against him.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to gather evidence related to the case.
