A prominent Indiana judge and his wife were seriously injured in a shooting at their Lafayette home on Sunday afternoon, sparking a broad investigation by local, state and federal law enforcement. Authorities say both victims are in stable condition, but the suspected shooter remains at large as officers pursue leads.

Judge and Wife Wounded in Afternoon Incident

Law enforcement officials responded just after 2:15 p.m. Sunday to reports of gunfire at a residence in Lafayette, Indiana—about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis. Once on the scene, they found Tippecanoe County judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police confirmed that Judge Meyer was struck in the arm while his wife sustained a hip injury. Both were quickly treated by medical personnel and are reported to be in stable condition. Shell casings were collected during the investigation.

Ongoing Search as Authorities Coordinate Response

The Lafayette Police Department has not yet identified a suspect in the shooting. The investigation has drawn in multiple agencies including the Indiana State Police, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, West Lafayette Police, the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI as part of the search effort.

Local leaders have described the attack as unsettling and unacceptable. Kimberly Meyer released a statement thanking law enforcement and first responders for their efforts and acknowledging community support during her recovery.

Indiana Supreme Court officials have also emphasized the importance of safety measures for judges and their families in the wake of the incident.
