Florida Child Drowning Leads to Child Neglect Charges

A Florida woman is facing criminal charges after her 4-year-old daughter drowned during a pool gathering at an apartment complex in Bradenton over the weekend.

Police said emergency crews responded to the Kendall Ridge Apartment Complex on the evening of May 9 after reports of a child found unconscious in the community swimming pool. Officers arrived within minutes and attempted lifesaving measures before the girl was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities identified the child’s mother as 32-year-old Rosette Pierrecius. She was arrested the following day and charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm.

Investigators believe the incident could have been prevented and said the young girl had reportedly remained underwater for several minutes before being discovered.

Surveillance Footage Became Key Part of Investigation

According to investigators, security camera footage from the apartment pool area played an important role in the case.

Police stated that the footage did not fully match statements provided by witnesses and the child’s mother. Detectives said the child, who reportedly could not swim, entered deeper water without proper supervision.

Authorities also claimed the mother admitted she had consumed alcohol during the gathering. Court documents allege she was distracted and failed to closely monitor the child near the pool.

Officials described the gathering as an adult-focused party rather than an event intended for children.

Police Say Tragedy Was Preventable

Bradenton police officials said the drowning went beyond a simple accident and pointed to a lack of supervision around the pool area.

Investigators reported that another adult eventually noticed the child underwater and pulled her from the pool. By that time, several minutes had reportedly passed.

The mother made her first court appearance shortly after her arrest and remains in custody as the case moves forward. Prosecutors are still reviewing whether additional or upgraded charges may be filed.

The incident has renewed conversations around pool safety, child supervision, and drowning prevention during family gatherings and community events.
